NSCFL Camp 2009 Part 2 of 3: Games and Special Night

|

The third day of the camp we organised a 2-hour plus games session for the campers to have fun and relax after attended many lecture and interactive sessions. It was a station game and each group shall complete the tasks as commanded to obtain points.

Have you noticed the little cute raw potato above? It’s a food but it’s not part of the meal during camp yet it played an important role in a game station.

A lame joke: They were not “worshipping” the potatoes, don't worry......

"Colour Blinds"...

No violence, just fun!

There was this station which requires each coming group to perform “Rain Dance”. Regardless of their creative capability, the effectiveness was so good that the terrible heavy rain with super strong winds only came to Petaling Jaya (instead of Seremban where the camp was held) after three days when some campers and coordinators (include me) just reached the SU main office and we need to unload our stuff.

My former umbrella was broken on that day. Poor thing……

Hulla Hop...

I was one of the station masters too beside being a session facilitator and officer of the camp.

Dodgeball

Ultimate Frissbee.

The last night we had a special night. After a singspiration session, each group presented their very super hyper ultimate funny drama with certain hilarious requirements (I need to keep the secret here).

It ranges from comedy, actions, family, love story, adventurous etc.

Zzzzz..........

AHHH......

"A sacrified lamb"???

"Brokeback Mountains"?

And who say Malaysia has no talented directors, producers, dancers, actors and actresses? We are coming, Oscar!

NSCFL Camp 2009 Part 1 of 3: Orientation, Theme Talks and Workshops

|

Organised by Scripture Union (SU) Peninsular Malaysia, National School Christian Fellowship Leaders’ (NSCFL) Camp 2009 was held successfully on last month, from 23rd to 28th in Seminari Theologi Malaysia (STM) at Seremban. We thank God for gathering 140 campers from around Malaysia who are leaders and potential leaders in the School Christian Fellowships (SCF).

Do not be confused on this camp with the Malaysia Baptist Convention’s Youth Camp on the same year too as they also had the similar theme (even the design of the camp poster by imitating the series logo of “Heroes”). There are not the same by the way.

STM, Seremban.

My former post of this blog contains more photos about this beautiful campus. Kindly refer to it if you are interested. Again, it’s really a nice place for study as well as for the retreat purpose.

Arrival.

We began our camp with an orientation which contains briefings and together with some activities such as Ice Breaker and team building.

Walao...

Heroes?

Before I forgot, I would like to say great thanks to the photographers (staff and some campers) who took great number of beautiful photos for this camp. Without their efforts and super cameras, I don’t think I can really post up these nice pictures here to be shared with all the readers.

Anyway, I can’t post up all the photos to this blog as they are so many of them. Without compressing these pictures, I used 7 CD-R (700 MB each) to keep them. Summing them up would takes you at least 4 GB memory. I guess there are thousands of photos and videos were taken and recorded.

Enjoyed the food at the dining hall.

The theme of the camp this year is called “Heroes of The Faith”. Based on the scripture from the book of Hebrews Chapter 11, the campers attended four sessions of theme talk which educated them not only the lesson of faith but also other related topics such as the dealing with disappointments and temptations. Once again, we would like to say million thanks to our camp speaker who has delivered these wonderful sessions that indeed we really learned a lot.

The camp also comes with useful workshops that enhance the campers with more knowledge and skills in other areas. This ranges from the School Ministry, Problem Solving, Spiritual Discipline, Program Planning, Creative Approaches etc. The campers were glad to have many session facilitators that made the sessions meaningful for them. These facilitators are either SU staff or experienced volunteers.

One of the distinctiveness of SU camps as compared with others are the book table we would set up. This sort of set up is to promote SU resources and useful materials for the campers who demand them but have difficulties in searching it. SU materials are mainly quiet time notes; ministry resources and also other topics. And most of them are sold with affordable prices.

I’ll post up another two articles with more photos about this camp to this blog in near future. I hope that the readers would not only enjoy in reading these but in the same time to pray for this annual camp which has actually blessed thousands of campers for the past twenty years. Whoever is interested to help us out as volunteer, you are welcome to give us a call or enquire it by sending email. Besides, our website also has the sufficient information for related matters.

Seminari Theologi Malaysia (STM), Seremban

|

My colleagues and I coordinated a Christian camp on last month, and it was held at STM, Seremban. It was the first time I went to this beautiful campus. STM, also known as Malaysia Theological Seminary, is one of the most established Bible colleges in Malaysia as well as in the region. STM celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Picture above shows two buildings. The left one is the student hostel and next to it is the main building which contains a hall, classrooms, administration offices and the library.

STM campus would be available for the usage of camps and retreats during their holidays every year when the theological students move out and back to their home place. It’s always the good choice for a number of organizers to select this place as camp venue due to its well-equipped facilities and lovely environment.

I love the unique design of the architectures around. These buildings are actually built on top of a small hill and not too near to the city. That’s why it’s also a great place for any Christian to do their personal retreat over here.

The hall.

Since I’m not a student, I failed to enter some areas and therefore no photos were taken for the spots such as library and classrooms. Yet I managed to found a photo of the library from a website.

The student hostel

We were arranged to stay in the student hostel during the camp. As compared with common dormitories at other campsites, the single and double rooms at STM are more favorable in the sense that we had more privacy during our stay (rather than living together with a group of people).

STM is really good place to pursuit your theological study from Diploma to the Doctorate level, and it’s also a good option for the locals and the foreigners from the region due to the affordable tuition fees and living costs.

Gunung, Jasar, Cameron Highlands

|

One of the purposes to make my last work trip to Cameron Highlands (CH) with another two colleagues was to check up some jungle treks’ trail. This is actually part of the planning for a coming evangelistic camp in March next year.

.

We decided to spend our morning till afternoon in trekking up (It was not considered as hiking as we walked all the way up) to the summit of Gunung Jasar, which is located not far from Tanah Rata town. The trail of getting up there is called Route No.10, and is situated not far from the campsite that we are going to occupy for the coming camp mentioned earlier.

.

The starting point of the route is actually beside (or behind) this place called Tan’s Camellia Garden.

We asked the owner of the garden before we moved further to avoid making any misjudgement on the right track. The locals told us that if we are fit enough and familiar with the tracks, it would only take less than one hour to go up and down from the summit of the mountain. Anyway, two hours in average would be consumed in general.

These scenaries seem like we were in a four season country. So we don't really need to worry about our budget to travel to overseas as we can actually enjoy the similar experience at CH.

Fig tree with its fruits.

Some beautiful tree and flowers.

Since this is a common jungle trail that many locals and tourists would always like to explore, most parts of the route are constantly appeared as clear paths as shown in photos. It seems safer and more convenience for travelers likes us who first visited the place. We also have less worry for leading young campers for their outing program on a next year’s camp after our study on this area. Anyway, we will still consider recruiting locals as more people who is familiar to the place able to help us to facilitate the tour with a group of campers.

Look at these! I'm amazed with the God's creation.

It just so beautiful and miraculous.

These are the so-called evidence show that we were here.

Interesting plants that only can be found on hills or mountains.

That’s a so-called tricky part that I think all visitors need to be alert about the signboards. Never be confused by the yellow signboard shown above which tells your location is in Route No.11 as you started your journey at Route No.10. Take note on a small flat ground which is located not far from the yellow signboard. Over there it’s like a Y-junction which would show you another two paths and you must take the left one. Another unclear signboard situated between these two paths actually shown the direction: Going left (Up) is Route No.10 and going right (down) is Route No.11.

Landslides with all kind of sizes commonly happened around CH, and we had the chance to side pass a landslide which seems like just happened not long ago. From here, we learned to understand the uncertain of jungle tracks could be caused by many factors, and one of them is unpredicted environmental changes. If the landslide is slightly more serious, this route would probably be destroyed. We would not have the chance to finish the trekking then.

Over-development issues is also another reason I believe that cause the happening of landslides around CH.

I know it would be just an open-ended argument between capitalism and loving the planet.

Another common matter that needs to be aware is the harmful insects around. The pictures below show a great number of huge red ants which I have no idea about their poisons and type of harmful to us. Most important thing, be careful and not to play near with it!
